The house was built by the fashion designer Cresdee in 1962 to mimic a conch shell . The building stands alone as a unique contribution to the architectural history of Shelter Island, NY.
The home was purchased in August of 2013 by its current owner, Brooklyn based artist, Joseph La Piana. He restored the entire property and designed a pool to visually complete the rotunda or “shell” from an aerial view. The property includes a lily pond which has been integrated into the landscaping of the back yard and was designed to bring the indoor and outdoor spaces together. The interior design benefits from the artistic insights of the owner who has created warm and architecturally attractive spaces. The house offers many perspectives for photographing and telling a visually appealing story.
